It isn't as big of an issue cropping on newer bodies vs over 10 years ago when the original 24-105 F4 came out and was matched up against the 24-70 2.8 as the only L choices. The 85mm 1.8 is by no means the best portrait lens Canon makes, but it gets the job done for somebody who shoots them occasionally and you can get it dirt cheap used on ebay. I had the 24-70 F2.8 first, and was very happy with my "downgrade" to the 24-105 F4. (Same story for the 15-35 F2.8, which I was so pleased to downgrade to the 14-35 F4.) That said, the 24-105 is by far my least used lens as I find the focal lengths it covers a little boring for my main interest, wildlife photography. 25.990.000 ₫. 27.990.000 ₫. Full review. Announced just before CP+ in February 2020, the RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM lens is the second ‘affordable’ kit lens for Canon’s full-frame R-series cameras. Like the RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM kit lens , it has been designed to be relatively compact and lightweight kit lens as well as affordably priced. Find out in our Canon EF 24-105mm f4L cropped-frame review, and as always for a demonstration of its design, coverage and features, check out our video tour. Testing notes. The lenses in this article were tested on Canon EOS 400D / XTi and EOS 40D bodies. We tried two copies of the EF 24-105mm with serial numbers of 305841 and 835491. A petal-shaped lens hood is optional. As the name implies, the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 STM IS uses a stepping motor (STM) for auto-focusing. It is normally quite fast and near noiseless. However, spot AF is quite useless - the camera barely finds its focus (using the EOS R5). It seems spot AF is quite a weakness on Canon mirrorless cameras in With major features like focal length range, maximum aperture and built-in stabilization similar to the Canon L-series lenses, the Sigma represents an excellent value relative to its peers. Compared to the 24-105 L II, the Sigma is slightly heavier, similar in size and lower priced. The Sigma has a higher MM (0.30x vs 0.24) to its advantage. Having shot both the 24-70 f/2.8 II and the 24-105 f/4 IS, I tend to think that more photographers will like the flexibility of the 24-105. The chief potential advantages of the 24-70 are the somewhat better image quality and the one-stop larger aperture. I would recommend the following three lenses Canon 17-40 F4L (Wide angle), Tamron 24-70 F2.8 (main lens) Tamron 70-300 F4 -5.6 VC (telephoto) dirt cheap excellent lens or The Canon 70-200 F2.8 II (if you got the money) alternate Tamron or Sigma 70-200 F2.8.
